The Threnody Series
Threnody from the Greek, thrénos ( wailing) is the synonym for Dirge. Dirge is Tuireamh in Gaelic. These are often spontaneous poems of lament for the dead and are often sung. The Threnody Series invites witness to the species threat and my work holding space for grief as ecosystem Bean Chaointe artist
I chose to use a Collograph technique of printmaking for this series because of the unpredictability and invitation to multiple interpretations of this medium, much like the open resonances of poems of lament. Each print is built from plates of recycled cardboard.
